Day 31 – Janadone

Dear Janathoners – You are amazing! 31 days of running. How on Earth did we get here?! I’m a bit split about everything really… in one sense I’m amazed at all your efforts and at the same time I can’t believe how quickly the month has gone! I guess having all the incredibly entertaining blogs to read has made it that much easier but I won’t forget the 31 battles I/we’ve all had with the little voice that “just can’t be bothered today”. Not this month little voice!!

A quick word about my run today. As part of my “seeing it off in style” plan that I mentioned yesterday I’d also decided I wanted to break my two mile record. That unfortunately went way, WAY out the window (I’m talking Australian accents and Koala bears) with the 20 miler yesterday and after hobbling around my office like an invalid all day it was enough of an effort to put on my trainers. But I wasn’t quitting on the last day, so I headed out on the old faithful two mile loop for one last time – but without the headphones, to savour my run as a few of you have suggested! It ended up being quite painful for the first half a mile – I was experiencing an incredible stabbing pain in my stomach, exactly like what Katy had been feeling around the time she had to stop actually… I could only conclude that God wanted me to feel that absolute agony that she’d been going through! Fortunately for me, as I would most definitely have had to stop, the pain went away and the rest of my run was a pleasant jog at a comfortable pace. I thought back over the month and then finally eased back to our flat to stop RunKeeper for the last time time this month. Janadone.

We’ve come so far in 31 days – I had so much fun running with Katy, her posts were hilarious (who could forget lolsocks, her running on her own on the Isle of Wight, her cool pencil iphone apps and of course the famous brownies), there was the incident with the body we found and of course the more recent super long runs, where I went from 10 miles one week to an insane 20 the next. It’s been an absolute blast and the only question that remains is where do we go next??! Well… Junathon isn’t too far away!!

Mile Today: 2
Total Miles: 104.6
Completion and Enjoyment: 100% :)

  1. What can I say other than well done for running today despite running 20 yesterday, you made it to Jan 31 great work

  2. Congratulations! I’ve enjoyed reading both your blogs, and Katy’s brownie recipe was absolutely amazing (and apparently idiot proof, as even I could manage it). Well done on your 20 miler and your overall tally.

  3. Well done. Inspired and entertained by your blogs, I look forward to Junathon

  8. Wonderful and I’ve thoroughly enjoy all of your blogs, both of you. Although the popping out for 2 miles and doing 20 will be my favourite! Well done to both of you.

  9. Oh well done. Picking yourself up to run that last bit, without music, after yesterday’s big effort is excellent work. I only came to your blog in the middle of the month, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts.

  10. Well done to you – your achievement is fantastic and looks brill set out in your blog – I hope it feels good – loved your last para from your blog – summing up all your experiences – excellent.
As you say, now to somehow keep up the good work of January – it is sort of a damocles (cant spell) hanging over your head – plan to go to the gym tonight – frost was a good excuse this am!

  11. Congratulations on completing Janathon Steve (and well done Katy for keeping you company for so long)! I’m pleasantly surprised how many among ‘my’ block of 20 bloggers managed to blog and run every day (six, with another three daily exercisers), considering how few people have completed Juneathon in the past (what with January being colder, longer etc.). I’m absolutely amazed by your efforts on Sunday, and well done on reaching your 100 miles! And I will try that brownie recipe at some point….
    Cheers,
    Jules (@2011miles), your ‘official’ reviewer!

  12. Well done on a fantastic Janathon! And, for managing a last Janathon run after that 20 miler! Loved both your posts along the way. See you in Juneathon :-)

Well done to both of you on Janathon. Looking forward to June. :)
